The Lincoln County SAFE KIDS Coalition goals
are to reduce the number of children and adults hurt or killed due to
unintentional and preventable injuries. The coalition along with other
agencies will focus on the leading killers of children under the age of 14
which include fire & burns, motor vehicle accidents (bicycle and pedestrian
accidents), drowning, choking/suffocation, poisoning, and falls.
With the help of a broad-based group of
community members we will be responsible for increasing public awareness of
unintentional preventable injuries and deaths. We will help to implement
safety programs in the community, evaluating safety programs, and
participating in public initiatives. We will also update the Lincoln County
Commissioners, Lincolnton City Council and the North Carolina Department of
Insurance - Office of State Fire Marshal on our progress on the different
programs we implement.
One of our goals was to get the Risk Watch
Program into each Lincoln County classroom from K through 8th grade and one
copy in each day care in Lincoln County. As of September of 2001 we had
reach that goal and we are now working with the teachers in training our
kids with the Risk Watch materials. Another one of our goals is to do at
least one car seat safety check once a quarter along with other education
workshops.
